methylenediurea + 2 H2O = N-(hydroxymethyl)urea + 2 NH3 + CO2
The product N-(carboxyaminomethyl)urea decomposes spontaneously into CO2, NH3, formaldehyde and urea according to the reactions: (1) N-(carboxyaminomethyl)urea = N-(aminomethyl)urea + CO2 (2) N-(aminomethyl)urea + H2O = N-(hydroxymethyl)urea + NH3 (3) N-(hydroxymethyl)urea = urea + formaldehyde
