cysteine is able to enter the active site of the enzyme, interact with the pyridoxal 5'-phosphate-lysine internal aldimine, form a cysteine-pyridoxal 5'-phosphate aldimine and undergo intramolecular nucleophilic cyclization through its sulfhydryl group, leading to irreversible inactivation.
