Hepatitis C virus genotype 5a
for hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1, substitutions at NS3 protease positions 155, 156, and 168 are the main determinants of PI resistance. For other genotypes, similar substitutions are selected during protease inhibitor treatment but are not characterized systematically. Most mutant variants show decreased fitness compared to that of the original viruses.
