enzyme displays higher activity in parasites cultured in low phosphate medium. Both promastigotes grown in low or high phosphate medium are capable of inducing the release of neutrophil extracellular traps from human neutrophils in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Parasites grown in low phosphate have 2.4 times higher survival rate than high phosphate promastigotes. Neutrophil extracellular traps disruption is prevented by the treatment of the parasites with inhibitor ammonium tetrathiomolybdate. Inhibition of the enzyme by 3'-AMP, 5'-GMP, or ammonium tetrathiomolybdate decreases promastigote survival upon interaction with neutrophils
