Compared to wild-type plants, esd4 contains higher levels of SID2 mRNA and about threefold more salicylate, whereas sed111 contains lower salicylate levels. Other sed mutations also reduce the high SID2 mRNA abundance and free salicylate levels found in esd4-1.
