General Information

EC Number General Information Comment Organism
2.7.11.11 physiological function PKA activity at the mitochondria is associated with the regulation of apoptosis, mitochondrial respiration, and ATP synthesis. Mitochondrial cAMP-dependent protein kinase is regulted by the protease calpain. Upon exposure of bovine heart mitochondria to digitonin, Ca2+, and a variety of electron transport chain inhibitors, the regulatory subunits of the PKA holoenzyme are digested by calpain, releasing active catalytic subunits. The proteolysis can be attenuated by calpain inhibitor I Bos taurus
