physiological function | genes msbA and orfE, forming an operon, are essential for bacterial viability under all growth conditions tested. Gene msbA is a multicopy suppressor of gene htrB, overview. When cloned in vectors maintained at two to four copies per cell, the msbA gene complements most of the HtrB phenotypes, including the morphological alterations, the overproduction of phospholipids, and the lethality exhibited at non-permissive temperatures. Neither HtrB nor MsbB can fully substitute for MsbA function | Escherichia coli |
