Protein Variants

Protein Variants Comment Organism
additional information fungal isolates resistant to the melanin biosynthesis inhibitors-dehydratase (MBI-D), which inhibits scytalone dehydratase, are detected in Japan. The isolates have a single point mutation in the gene encoding scytalone dehydratase. In fitness tests, resistant isolates show reduced fitness, compared with that of sensitive isolates. Enzyme kinetics analyses of the scytalone dehydratases from MBI-D-sensitive and MBI-D-resistant isolates reveal that the activity of MBI-D-sensitive-type enzymes is approximately double that of MBI-D-resistant-type enzymes. The sensitive-type enzyme has higher scytalone dehydration activity than that of resistant-type enzyme at temperatures ranging from 15-35°C and at pHs ranging from pH 6.0-9.0. Acquisition of resistance to MBI-D negatively affects the pathogenicity of Magnaporthe oryzae due to decreased scytalone dehydratase activity Pyricularia oryzae
