Application

Application Comment Organism
environmental protection di- and trichloroisocyanuric acids are widely used as water disinfection agents, but cyanuric acid accumulates with repeated additions and must be removed to maintain free hypochlorite for disinfection. The study describes the development of methods for using a cyanuric acid-degrading enzyme contained within nonliving cells that are encapsulated within a porous silica matrix Acidovorax citrulli

environmental protection di- and trichloroisocyanuric acids are widely used as water disinfection agents, but cyanuric acid accumulates with repeated additions and must be removed to maintain free hypochlorite for disinfection. The study describes the development of methods for using a cyanuric acid-degrading enzyme contained within nonliving cells that are encapsulated within a porous silica matrix. The optimum enzyme for these purposes was found to be the cyanuric acid hydrolase from Moorella thermoacetica. A water-recycling, flowthrough system is constructed and shown to be effective in removing 10 mM M cyanuric acid, a concentration well above that encountered in real-world disinfection processes Moorella thermoacetica
