physiological function PPK2 contributes to Mycobacterium tuberculosis ability to cause disease in guinea pigs. PPK2 mutant-infected guinea pigs have significantly reduced bacterial loads and tissue pathology in comparison to wild-type-infected guinea pigs at later stages of infection. In comparison to the wild-type strain, the PPK2 mutant strain is more tolerant to isoniazid and impaired for survival in THP-1 macrophages Mycobacterium tuberculosis
