physiological function a key metabolic enzyme of platelet-activating factor (PAF) syntesis, a potent inflammatory lipid mediator. Platelet-activating factor (1-O-alkyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) is a biologically active phospholipid implicated in physiological as well as pathological inflammatory processes such as atherogenesis. It affects several critical points of atherogenesis including thrombosis, inflammation and oxidation.
