The enzyme, characterized from the cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. WH8102, catalyses the covalent attachment of the phycobilin chromophore phycoerythrobilin to cysteine 84 of the alpha subunit of the phycobiliprotein R-phycocyanin and its isomerization to phycourobilin.
