The enzyme can catalyse the sequential hydrolysis of tri-, di-, and mono-phosphorylated oxetanocin A compounds, releasing one molecule of inorganic phosphate at a time. The active site switches from a dinuclear to a mononuclear metal center as phosphates are eliminated from the substrate.
