Positional specificity of the hydroxyl group of the glycerol backbone (sn-2 or sn-1) at which LPLATs introduce a fatty acid. LPCAT1 introduces palmitic acid both at the sn-1 and sn2 positions of palmitoyl-lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC). sn-1-palmitoyl LPC appears to have a slightly higher affinity for LPCAT1 than sn-2-palmitoyl LPC, while sn-2-palmitoyl LPC has a higher turnover rate
