physiological function recombinant Bacteroides fragilis toxin (BFT, 5 nM) upregulates spermine oxidase in human colonic epithelial cell lines HT-29/c1 and T-84, resulting in spermine oxidase-dependent generation of reactive oxygen species and induction of gamma-H2A.x, a marker of DNA damage.
