1,3,8-trihydroxy-6-methylanthraquinone i.e. emodin, an active compound of aloe. Emodin increases the fibrinolytic activity of fibroblast cells in a dose-dependent manner, linked to increased uPA activity and uPA gene up-regulation. Emodin also induces up-regulation of uPA inhibitor PAI-1. Up-regulations are independent of emodin's effect on nuclear factor kappaB. The effect on the uPA system may be via generation of reactive oxygen species Homo sapiens
