physiological function targeted expression in the cytosol, ER, and apoplasm of Nicotiana benthamiana. Translocation to the chloroplast is not successful. CphE accumulates in high amounts in the cytosol, moderate levels are present in the ER, and the enzyme is nearly undetectable in the apoplasm. The production in the ER leads to an increased number and size of necroses compared with cytosolic expression.
