additional information feruloyl esterase can release more diferulic acid from isolated arabinoxylans from cereal byproducts than from the raw material. Differences in the types of dimers released are found whether material is isolated from brewers’ spent grain or from wheat bran. Free ferulic acid release is lower from the extracts, suggesting that those ferulate moieties remaining are more resistant to hydrolysis than the alkali-labile groups lost during extraction. Arabinoxylans with a low degree of arabinose substitution are preferentially solubilised by the enzyme Humicola insolens ?
