additional information rapid screening method to detect specific inhibitors of pyruvate phosphate dikinase. Organic extracts of about 6500 marine macroscopic organisms are tested for inhibition. Approximately 70% of the PPDK selective extracts are from sponges (phylum Porifera). The remaining 30% of active extracts that preferentially inhibit PPDK include ascidians, cnidarians, echinoderms, mollusks, and red algae, with 25% of these preferentially inhibiting PPDK Zea mays
