Sorbitol uptake rate in strain BL285 is 88fold lower than in the wild-type. GutB mutant (strain BL282) constitutively expresses the gut operon but is impaired in sorbitol uptake. GutM mutant (strain BL286) shows lower levels of gutFRMCBA transcription than the wild-type strain
