the enzyme is involved in biosynthesis of emetine. Almost all of the 7'-O-demethylcephaeline is converted to cephaline within 2 min. Emetine the methylation product of cephaline is not observed, which indicates thatCiOMT1 does not use cephaline as a preferred substrate compared to 7'-O-demethylcephaeline. When all of the 7'-O-demethylcephaeline is converted to cephaline after 10 min, emetine is gradually produced from cephaline
